Green Office: Energy and Consumables Management in Faculty Buildings
Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen , Kamphaeng Saen Campus
Details
The faculty launched a Green Office initiative to shift resource use behavior. Building-level energy monitoring was introduced through smart submeters, which report daily consumption data to managers and staff. The transparency enabled targeted efficiency measures such as adjusting air conditioning setpoints during summer, rationalizing meeting room schedules to avoid overlapping HVAC loads, and maximizing daylight to replace artificial lighting.
On the materials side, the project promoted paper reduction by rolling out digital document systems and electronic signatures for nearly all internal workflows. Collection points for reused paper and office supplies were established, reducing A4 paper purchases by more than 35% in the first year. These efforts raised awareness of resource value and fostered daily conservation habits among staff.
Concrete results include sustained per-capita reductions in electricity use and minimized recyclable waste. The Green Office became a showcase site where other university units visited to replicate best practices. The initiative directly advances SDG 12 on sustainable consumption and production, while embedding an environmental culture in organizational routines.
