Driving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Kasetsart University (KU), as Thailand's leading higher education institution, is committed to its core vision: "Disseminating the Knowledge of the Land (Sat Haeng Phaen Din) to foster sustainable national development and achieve international recognition." This vision integrates the SDG KU WAY concept with its four core missions: generating graduates, research and innovation, academic services, and art and cultural preservation.

During the 2023–2025 period (B.E. 2566–2568), the university has proactively undertaken several initiatives to address the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing particularly on critical issues such as climate change (SDG 13), responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), quality education (SDG 4), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10). This is implemented through key policies, including:

  • The Proactive 6Us Policy (Green University, Digital University, Research University, World-class University, Socially Responsible University, Happy University), serving as a framework for holistic sustainable development.
  • The Green University Master Plan (2018 and updated versions), encompassing maintaining at least 30% green space, utilizing clean energy (solar farms), zero-waste management, and water conservation.
  • The 5.0 Sustainable Environment Policy (2024 / B.E. 2567), covering agroforestry, biodiversity, clean energy, marine pollution management, and environmental leadership within the community.
  • SDG KU Way Projects and Activities, such as KU Let’s Share, KU Fair Online, KU Public Park, KU Living Place, and annual sustainability award competitions under the themes Happy & Low-Carbon KU / Healthy & Low-Carbon KU.

Key achievements over the past three years include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting SDG-aligned education and research, providing community services through 17 research stations and 4 animal hospitals, and achieving RCE Sakon Nakhon recognition as a Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development.
