Climate-Smart Rice Partnership with Peri-Campus Farmers
Faculty of Science at Sriracha , Sriracha Campus
Details
This project partnered with rice farmers surrounding the campus to pilot climate-smart techniques reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water use. Methods included Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and drought-tolerant rice varieties. Support included plot-level water measurement tools and data analytics to optimize irrigation and fertilization.
Sixty-five households covering 240 hectares participated, with hands-on training and seasonal monitoring, plus peer-exchange networks. Results showed average water use down 23% and methane emissions reduced by over 32% without yield penalties.
The initiative helps farmers adapt to climate change while building geospatial datasets for local agricultural policy. It advances SDG 2 and SDG 13 and matches 2025 indicators 96, 210, and 111.
