Climate-Resilient Rice Innovation Hub
Faculty of Natural Resources and Agro-Industry , Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus
Details
The Faculty of Agriculture, with farmer networks, launched a Climate-Resilient Rice Innovation Hub to develop rice varieties adapted to drought and flooding, supported by real-time environmental monitoring technologies. The hub integrates field trials, greenhouse research, and farmer training facilities to accelerate practical adoption.
Activities involved screening over 80 rice varieties, testing in multiple agro-ecological settings, and deploying sensors for water, soil moisture, and temperature, linked to weather forecasts for adaptive management. Research outputs were shared with farmers through participatory workshops and demonstration plots.
In the first year, 140 households participated, and three new rice varieties reduced water use by 22% on average and withstood seven extra days of submergence without yield loss. Some plots even showed yield increases. The hub aligns with SDG 2 and SDG 13 and fulfills 2025 indicators 96, 210, and 111.
